4th EUSO Stakeholders Forum
The EUSO Stakeholders Forum is a central part of the EU Soil Observatory (EUSO), serving as an open and inclusive platform that brings together a diverse range of participants, including soil scientists, policymakers, regional and national representatives, land managers, NGOs, and concerned citizens. Its goal is to encourage public engagement and drive societal change in how we view and manage our soils.
Healthy soils are essential for achieving climate goals, preventing biodiversity loss, and ensuring a sustainable food supply. However, over 60% of soils in the EU are affected by various degradation processes. The updated Soil Health Dashboard, developed by EUSO, identifies where and to what extent soil degradation is occurring across Europe. To address these challenges, the proposed Soil Monitoring Law aims to make monitoring soil health mandatory. It also provides principles for sustainable soil management and outlines actions for situations where soil contamination poses serious risks to human health and the environment.
In this context, EUSO will host its 4th Stakeholder Forum, an annual event organized by the Joint Research Centre (JRC). The forum offers a platform for participants from all sectors, including policymakers, scientists, local stakeholders, civil society, and the general public, to discuss key issues related to soil. The 2024 forum will cover a range of topics, including:
- Status and prospects of the Soil Monitoring Law
- Launch of the report State of soils in Europe
- Global perspective of soil health policies
- Launch of the EUSO Working Group on nutrients
- Soil literacy and Soil Sciences and Arts
