Climate Change, frequent droughts and decreasing soil fertilitiy are increasing problems for the agriculture in Brandenburg. Could mob grazing offer an alternative to the common system of pasture? The practical approach targets this question by increasing forage cultivation to raise soil fertility and resilience of topsoil. At the same time it will be approached, if new mulch layers will be developed by the movement of the cows and if humus can be build in that process. Furthermore economical outcomes will be studied.
The aim is to show under which conditions Mob Grazing represents an effective climate change adaptation strategy with which drought-prone aread feed areas can be used in a site-adapted, efficient and profitable manner by suckler cow husbandry. In addition, it is investigated whether mob grazing builds up mulching layers that improve humus and soils. In addition, we provide knowledge about Stockmanship, the stress- and time-saving work with cattle, as this method is a condition for successful mob grazing.

The participating company Gut Temmen has been experimenting with Mob Grazing on arable fodder land in the "Stegelitz Agrar GmbH" business unit since 2019. A scientific field trial also takes place here. With the Bio Ranch Zempow, the Dannenberger Biohof, the company of Florence Hallier and Leonardt Emmel as well as that of the Taucher LandRegEn GmbH, we advise and accompany other companies on the possibilities of implementing this grazing process. We are in close contact with other practice partners, in particular Hof Decker and Haus Riswick as associate members. The expert Manuel Winter (Change Grazing) is an advisor.
Communication with field days, network meetings and publications is carried out through climate practice. The specially created "Mob Grazing Network" provides information on the grazing process with its versatile areas of application: grassland and forage farming, dairy and suckler cow husbandry as well as the keeping of horses, sheep and goats. The focus is on the transfer of information and knowledge between practice, science, politics and the interested public.
