Soil is a vitally important resource supplying numerous ecosystem services such as the provision of food, water purification, nutrient regulation, and biodiversity. At the same time, the soil is vulnerable to erosion, contamination, sealing and other natural and nthropogenic threats. While the ecosystem services of soils increase in importance under the current global change, so do the soil threats.

Therefore, the main theme of the Wageningen Soil Conference 2023 is: “Working together on solutions for a sustainable world”. The event has an interactive character with conference sessions as well as workshops on divergent soil-related topics.

The four conference days are divided into different topics, such as:

  • Soils for Society
  • Advances in Measuring and Modelling Soil Processes
  • Mapping and Evaluating Soil Functions across Scales
  • Soils for Nature-Based Solutions

The programme for 2023 will consist of keynote presentations and parallel sessions in the mornings, masterclasses in the afternoons, side events, and much more. Check out the full programme here.

Alongside this conference, a Special Issue will be published in the European Journal of Soil Science about ‘Soil solutions for a sustainable world’. In order to contribute to the Special Issue, authors are asked to express their interest to the organising committee by sending an email to wageningensoilconference@wur.nl. The abstract submission deadline is 15 October 2023. Further information is available on the event's website.
